🕊️ When Goals Become Blindfolds (And How to Take Them Off) 🎯

You’ll hear about goal-setting at some point in your life — maybe from a self-help book, or more likely… at work 😅

Especially when KPI season hits.

Suddenly you’re setting yearly, quarterly, even monthly targets.

And these goals do give us direction, purpose, and (let’s be honest) sometimes a little monetary motivation too 💸

But outside of work, when it comes to personal goals — like weight loss, finding love, saving a certain amount — we don’t always realise when those goals stop serving us…

…and start controlling us.

👁️‍🗨️ When a Goal Turns into a Blindfold

For a stretch of eight months, I was trying everything.

First, regular 36-hour fasts + cardio.

Then, weight training + 36-hour fasts.

Then, weight training + cardio.

Then back to regular 36-hour fasts + cardio — this time with weight training, tweaking things to see what worked.

I wasn’t aimless. I was trying.

But the result I wanted — my “ideal weight” — didn’t show up.

The scale bounced within a fixed range. That’s it.

And the more I stared at that number, the more I felt like I was fighting a battle against… myself.

And I started missing the bigger picture.

🍒 Why My Brain Tried to Git Cherry-Pick My Progress

In Git, cherry-pick lets you select specific commits to apply elsewhere.

It’s useful…

…but if all you do is cherry-pick a single feature, and ignore the rest of the project’s improvements —

you might end up in a weird state.

That’s what I was doing.

Focusing on just one metric, trying to “port it” into reality,

while ignoring all the valuable improvements already happening in the background:

✨ My clothes fit better

✨ I had more energy for daily life

✨ I felt mentally clearer

✨ My habits were more sustainable

But I couldn’t see it.

I was too busy waiting for the one commit — that number on the scale — to land.

🌿 So What Can We Do Instead?

✅ Focus on what you can do — daily habits that are aligned with your goal.

✅ Stay aware of the direction you’re heading — keep adjusting your actions but stop refreshing the outcome.

✅ Let go of the need to control how the result shows up — trust that your aligned actions will lead you somewhere meaningful.

But when you move with ease — showing up, adjusting, staying consistent, even when the result is questionable —

That’s where the quiet magic brews ☕✨

You begin to realise that progress doesn’t always look the way you imagined.

🌬️ Let Things Unfold

It might not happen the way you expected.

It might not even look like the picture you had in mind.

But when you stop forcing and start flowing, you’ll one day look back and think:

“Wow 🤩 Things have changed so much… and I couldn’t have planned it better.”

🌱 Your Turn

Is there a specific outcome you’ve been gripping too tightly?

A specific number on the scale?

A specific pay by a specific age?

A specific person?

What if, underneath all that,

what you really want is a healthy physical body,

a fulfilling career,

or a nourishing relationship?

And what if… you gave those things the space to unfold?

📝 One Last Thought…

Maybe I should just paste a sticky note on the scale with my “ideal weight” written on it,

look at it every day, and feel what it’s like to already be in that body…

Before I even start my day 😏

LOL.

But hey — whatever works, right?
