Teaching and Learning: The challenge of running out of ideas and how sharing helps replenish creativity

Ever since I had the idea of sharing online, I've been haunted by a recurring fear: what do I have to share that could genuinely add value to someone’s life? And what if I run out of ideas entirely?

In my quest to always be prepared, I found myself hoarding thoughts—saving notes on countless topics in my note-taking app, even scribbling ideas across my whiteboard. But I wasn’t taking action: no setting up a website, no domain registration, no learning the basics of blogging. Just collecting, collecting, collecting.

In Show Your Work!, there was a passage that really stuck with me:

Reading those words reminded me of an old saying: “The more you give, the more you get.” It encouraged me to stop hoarding ideas and start sharing them. Sharing pushes me to learn more, to stay inspired, and to refill my creative tank.

As such, I’m embracing a new approach in my daily life:

Focusing on documenting and sharing, rather than perfecting, has become key. Instead of aiming for some unattainable “perfect moment” when my ideas are fully formed, I’ve chosen to share as I go, trusting that what I learn today might benefit someone else tomorrow.

Your turn

When was the last time you shared something you learned, no matter how small? Did it help you see things differently or lead to new ideas?
